'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Ethan Galbraith continues clash with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith grins broadly as he reminisces about the nail-biting final moments of Swansea's stunning fightback triumph against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. The game culminated with Galbraith picking up a supporter's spectacles following the pitch-side pile-on.

As the match entered added time, Galbraith cracked the upright with a powerful shot from 25 yards, and Cameron Burgess quickly slammed home the rebound before racing off toward the home end to celebrate, with supporters congregating around the players.

Extraordinary Turnaround

The victory capped an extraordinary turnaround given the Welsh side had been behind 2-0 during the second half. During the euphoria, there was some collateral damage. Galbraith explained, "There was a supporter shouting out and Josh Key and I were puzzled: 'What's he on about here?' Then we noticed the glasses. It was a bit of banter putting them on. We are on the pitch as athletes but we're humans, too, so to have a joke with the fans is always good."

Premier League Giants

The victory booked a upcoming fixture at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, a team Galbraith pushed hard at the same stage of the FA Cup with the London side in February. He had a prime vantage point when his former team took the lead in remarkable manner, with Jamie Donley's first-time shot from about long distance going in via the bar and the City goalkeeper. It seems unfair that it was credited as an own goal.

"You would have expected they would've credited him for having a go from that distance," says Galbraith, who played in the middle before moving to right defensive wing after they changed shape. That meant facing off against the England international, with whom he swapped shirts, and the attacker was among the Manchester squad who paid tribute to the way his former team approached the match.

City's Quality

"Physically they are very good but even the basics and simple things, they can just execute repeatedly," the midfielder notes. "It appears that they never miss a pass and they know how to control and neutralize a game. You can think you're holding your own and then without warning they will just deliver a through ball past your midfield without you even seeing. You have to be alert throughout of the game. It takes a resilient mindset and concentration just to keep pace."

New Chapter

The Welsh side sought to acquire Galbraith in January and beat off competition to secure him in the summer in a significant move. He established himself as a crowd pleaser across multiple campaigns at Orient and has quickly done the same in his new home. At the London club he reunited with the coach, who four years ago gave Galbraith his initial sustained opportunity in senior football on loan at Doncaster from United. Then came a loan at League Two Salford City, before he moved on from his boyhood club.

Learning Curve

"I was likely a bit naive going into men's football. I think numerous professionals would say youth team games is very different. Sometimes it appears possession is exchanged without serious challenge. You see few physical contests. Once you start playing first-team football you have to adapt rapidly."

International Recognition

He has shown that maturation for his team and nation, performing well for Northern Ireland, who remain in contention for the World Cup next summer via the knockout phase and for whom he has been selected in the recent fixtures, including two matches encounters against a football powerhouse. The ex-coach, Galbraith's previous international manager, paid him the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he manipulates the ball and his knack for a killer pass.

Humble Beginnings

It has been a remarkable path for the kid from the Queens Park estate in the Belfast suburb, just outside Belfast, who was raised observing his father, the elder Galbraith, also a central player, play for a local club.

Old Trafford Memory

His sole appearance for Manchester United came in the away trip in 2019, a European competition trip to the host city, where they featured on an artificial pitch and the arena covering was sealed owing to the weather of -15C. "This represented a lengthy journey and it was chilly," he recalls, grinning. "The preceding week, myself and quite a few of the young lads trained together, so that assisted our preparation. Just to travel with the first team and get a couple of minutes at the end was incredible."

Leaving United

What was the challenge was it to depart Manchester United, the club he signed from his boyhood team aged a teenager? "This turned out relatively straightforward, because I reached the point where I knew I couldn't establish myself at first-team level. I'm hugely grateful for the time I spent there but it got to the point where I thought I required a fresh start, drop down the leagues and play professional soccer. Now I'm slowly progressing again."

Life in Swansea

It is the middle of the day at the team's practice facility but Galbraith has an appointment at late afternoon: a road rules assessment, another progress toward getting on the road. Before his recent move to Sketty, the 24-year-old was a frequent passenger in Swansea's dubbed fun bus, a small coach driven by academy staff, the drivers, which transports players to and from sessions and fixtures.

"My companions include the Portuguese player, another squad member, an Ivorian player – a former passenger used to be in it but has got his license. It's pleasant to interact with the guys but I'm planning to be the subsequent individual out of the minibus and on the road. The Portuguese player likes to pull a few pranks; he's frequently playing tricks."

Supporter Connections

When he represented Orient, Galbraith would blend in with supporters on London's Central line after beginning his trip at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
