Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a wide array of characters, and a exciting storyline showcasing angels, demons, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within the urban setting.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 are included.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
The third episode ended with a dramatic pause and presented the initial group of characters who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their own adventure, separate from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team features the determined fighter (played by Travis), Thimble (the talented performer), Tyranny (the cast member), the cleric (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
With 13 cast members, it was obvious from the start that maintaining everyone at one table would be unfeasible.
That’s why, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, intertwining the individual narratives before splitting into three separate parties: Fighters, Strategists, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for players who are drawn to a traditionally charged battle-oriented narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.
At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might appear unsuited, but the developments of the latest installment show why these specific adventurers are best suited for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
To begin with, the group knows exactly where to go next after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose death started the story’s plot—exploited The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, entering the hidden lair, assaulting the rogue, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.
The traitor then settled his obligations and ran away to a secure base in the northern region, above the city, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each member has a personal reason to depart the metropolitan area:
- Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, seeks revenge.
- Kattigan knows Timmony and cautions that it is a dangerous environment.
- The strong character and Wicander, having resisted his family’s wishes to eliminate Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their reputation as prominent individuals in the powerful family could enable the party enter locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, The fighter swore a unbreakable promise to The savior for his rescue and will now accompany him anywhere.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control the city for a range of causes, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- The rogue and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and Wicander defied House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by the family.
This leaves them little choice but to travel to the remote area in pursuit of the traitor.
